The 7-day Machame Route on Mount Kilimanjaro is a longer and more gradual ascent compared to 6 days Machame, providing better acclimatization and increasing the chances of a successful summit. This 7-day Machame Route itinerary allows for gradual acclimatization, making it a preferred choice for climbers who prioritize altitude adaptation. As with any climb, it's crucial to follow the guidance of experienced guides, stay hydrated, and be aware of the potential effects of high altitude.

Itinerary

  • Pickup from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to your hotel in Moshi
  • Briefing and gear check with your Mountain guide
  • Rest and prepare for the trek

  • Elevation: 1800m (5905ft) to 2835m (9301ft)
  • Distance: 11km
  • Trekking time: 5-6 hrs
  • Zone: Rainforest

After breakfast we drive from Moshi to park gates, pass through lush rainforest, home to diverse flora and fauna. Reach Machame Camp for the night

  • Distance: 5km

Ascend through the rainforest, entering the heath and moorland zones. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. trek to Shira Cave Camp  for overnight.

  • Trekking time: 5-6 hrs

Traverse the Shira Plateau, gaining altitude, passing the moorland zone, passing the Lava Tower for acclimatization on high altitude, camp in the Barranco Valley with stunning , views of the Barranco Wall.

  • Distance: 6km
  • Trekking time: 4-5 hrs

Conquer the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding section, traverse the Karanga Valley for acclimatization, Camp at Karanga with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

  • Trekking time: 4-5 hrs
  • Zone: Alpine desert

Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base for the summit push, passing the alpine desert, rest and prepare for the summit attempt at midnight, Camp at Barafu, with a stark alpine desert landscape.

  • Elevation: 4673m (15331ft) to 5,895m (19340ft) Uhuru Peak to 3,100m (10170ft)
  • Distance: 19km
  • Trekking time: 15-16 hrs
  • Zone: Summit Arctic Zone

Start the summit ascent around midnight, reach Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for overnight

  • Elevation: 3,100m (10170ft) to 1,640m (5380ft)
  • Distance: 10km
  • Trekking time: 3-4 hrs
  • Zone: Rainforest

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, receive certificates and celebrate the successful climb and awarded medal, then transfer to the hotel in Moshi for a well- deserved rest or celebrations for scaling the highest freestanding mountain in the World!
